Conceived by Joshua Sofaer - Hosted by the City Art Centre
We're sold out.
Applications are in, teams have been selected, the hunt is on for the 16th of August...
Edinburgh bred artist, Joshua Sofaer has created the supreme scavenger hunt. On the morning of the hunt, Saturday, August 16, 2008, each of the 40 teams selected to participate will receive 100 clues. These clues help teams earn points — and points translate into prize money. After deciphering the clues, the teams must beg, borrow, barter, and bluff their way around the
city, scavenging the items required. At the end of the day, teams can expect to have collected an array of strange and wonderful objects, many of which will then become an exhibition that will run from 18th August until 25th August 2008. The team with the most points wins a £2,000 cash prize.
In 1917 Marcel Duchamp shocked the art world with an overturned urinal entitled Fountain. Over the course of the 20th century, art found the found object. This project asks questions about the role of the found object in contemporary art practice, ranging from visual art to performance. It blurs the boundaries between performance, visual art, curator and artist. It brings together the Edinburgh Art Festival, the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, City Art Centre, Escalator East To Edinburgh and Dr Roberts Magic Bus.
